Catch up

I can't believe it's almost a month past since my last post.
We went to Volcano Island at Algonkian Park. The park had a huge bucket that would fill up and empty on the kids. Isaac figured out that he knows how to swim and found the confidence to keep working on it. Ethan had fun going down the slides and being forced down by the dumping bucket. Leo had a great time floating in his life jacket and going down the kiddie slide. Grace loved the water and all of the action.

July 22 was the 150 Anniversary of the beginning of the Civil War. We went to the Manasas Battlefield where the Battle of Bull Run began. There were many post marks to see, but it was a hot and very humid day. Although the battlefield was cool, I think the kids enjoyed the bus ride to and from the parking.

We went to Arlington, Virginia to visit some sites and to have lunch with my mom. She took the boys to see the inside of the Metro. We stayed in Crystal City and had lunch at Sbarro's.

We went to the Arlington Cemetery. The kids were very well behaved (thank goodness!) It's a spiritual experience walking on hallowed ground. It's also an emotional experience to feel the patriotism running through my blood and being thankful to those that served and continue to serve our country. We were lucky enough for the kids to watch the changing of the guards. It's amazing to me how insync they keep the on guard soldier while switching to another gaurd. While we were walking to our car, I saw a man fixing his uniform after getting out of his vehicle. I asked Ethan and Isaac to go up to the man and thank him for serving our country. The gentleman was polite, welcomed the boys and shook their hands.
