My Husband!!

On May 23rd, Nathaniel and I will have been married for 10 years. I can hardly believe it myself. I feel so lucky and blessed that I have found the most amazing man and best friend. I know that Heavenly Father made him especially for me! Even the littlest things Nathaniel does, I know that he's just mine. I wanted to take a little time to share some of my favorite things about Nathaniel and let him know how much he means to me. (they are in no special order)

1. I know without a doubt, he loves me. It's in the way he looks, kisses and touches me.

2. He is a great provider. He worries about making sure that I am happy and taken care of. He works his butt off so that I have the things I need and want.

3. He is an amazing father. Not only did he have a great dad to learn from, but he also loves our boys. He makes sure that they are happy and that they are well taken care of. He takes the time to teach them things, like fishing, camping, homework, the gospel and to treat their mom with respect.

4. He is a worthy priesthood holder. I don't know what I would do without this one! He is even great if I freak out in the middle of the night, wake him up and demand a special prayer on the house because I heard some noise.

5. He is the most patient man with his wife that I know. I screwed up finances a couple weeks ago and he was really nice and patient with me. I knew he was upset and probably wanted to yell because he has always been a stickler about money and although he had to take a couple of deep breathes, he didn't make me feel any worse than I already felt.

6. He is my best friend. I have learned so much from him. He listens to me and comforts me. If we are having an arguement, he is still the person that I want to go to for comfort.

7. He understands the things that are important to me... even if he doesn't understand, he supports me. Like hair. Every women knows how important hair is and to have it maintained can be a pain and expensive, but Nathaniel understands that. He would rather me spend a little extra on a salon service than me be upset about something gone wrong. Before we were married, I had colored my hair dark brown and wanted to go more blonde for the wedding. Putting blonde on dark brown can ruin it. Some of my blonde hair was fried (like spaghetti). He helped me by putting my hair under the faucet and put a deep conditioner on it.

8. Even though he misses out on scary movies, he doesn't hold a grudge towards me. He never makes me feel uncomfortable about something I don't want to do.

9. Even through my many mistakes, he lets me learn from them. He doesn't try to take over my life because I did something wrong. He steps back and encourages me. Only when I'm needing help or can't handle a situation, does he try to help. He allows me to grow and learn.

10. He supports me as a wife and mother. He doesn't make decisions without talking to me first. He trusts me with making some of the decisions myself. He believes in me!

I am very much in love with Nathaniel and am thankful to have him apart of my life. Even if it took him a little longer to realize he loved me, I'm glad that he chose me as his eternal companion. I love you sweetie!

32 weeks...

Well, I am 32 weeks... Baby is doing well. His name will be Leo Michael. I have been scheduled to be induced on June 26. We are really excited. The boys love to feel him kick and move around. They also have to talk to him every night.

my little helper

This afternoon I was tired... okay, I take a nap almost daily. Isaac is great during that time. I turn on a kid tv channel and he plays with his Star War guys (Thanks Cody!!) or his PlayMobil castle guys. This afternoon he surprised me by cleaning up his mess of toys and he also vacuumed the kitchen and bathroom tile. (I also have to thank my mom for getting me the hardfloor vacuum. I told her I was fine with the broom and dust pan, but she insisted that having more kids, I needed this. Thanks Mom.) Here's a little clip my dad took. I'd show the other one, but it's too big (and you can see me on the couch sleeping).

Ethan

Ethan is too smart for his own good. He amazes me constantly. He is like his dad, that he is a creature of habit. He has his favorite foods. He loves to be active with his friends. He just tried playing airsoft wars and now knows what it's like to get hit with a BB. He is patient with Isaac and can get frustrated with himself when something isn't quite perfect. He tries his hardest to do the right thing and doesn't like getting into trouble. He is always trying to find a new adventure around the house, like taking a ride down the stairs. He gets bored pretty easy once he's figured out a game. Ethan is very independant, but is very responsible. He will call me if he is going to another friends house. He always lets me know what is going on. He loves to be with the bigger boys and learn about what the older boys are doing. He is interested in Parkour, (sometimes abbreviated to PK) or l'art du déplacement (English: the art of displacement) is an activity with the aim of moving from one point to another as efficiently and quickly as possible, using principally the abilities of the human body. It is meant to help one overcome obstacles, which can be anything in the surrounding environment — from branches and rocks to rails and concrete walls — and can be practiced in both rural and urban areas. Parkour practitioners are referred to as traceurs, or traceuses for females. One of Ethan's friends brothers is heavily into learning Parkour. So you'll see Ethan jumping off of walls and trying to run a wall or doing flips on the ground.
I've been told by several people in the ward that Ethan is a leader amongst his friends and he sets a good example. The Primary chorister is our next door neighbor. She said that Ethan is always respectful and tells his friends to be good because she is our neighbor.

Last week Ethan learned how to write a report by researching his topic. His report was on Sharks. He is fascinated with them. He had to pick out pictures that went along with each page of his report. His class also had to get up in front of an audience (parents) and present the reports. Ethan did a great job.

Ethan is really a terrific kid. He is always happy and loving. He doesn't ever forget to hug me. Even though he gets to suffer as our first kid (aka guinea pig), he makes it pretty easy for us to be proud of him.

Isaac

So Isaac has had a pretty hard time leaving me... even when I leave him at home with Nathaniel he freaks out. Much of this I rationalize is because I had a car accident last June and then Sylus dying. Ethan got over it, but it's been lingering with Isaac a little too long. Yesterday he had the hardest time going to his Primary class. He cries and says he's scared. Most of what he says is an excuse to get what he wants. Well, I bribbed him to go to class by taking away his puppy for the day and he was okay with it... so off to class with dad he went. When we got home, Nathaniel and I talked. Nathaniel mentioned that he doesn't want to punish Isaac for not wanting to go to class. So we talked with Isaac and said that he'll have to stay hom next time taped to the bed so we would now that he's not doing anything destructive. We practiced last night with him by duct taping him to the bunk bed. He had to stay there during prayer and scripture reading. It still hasn't cured him of going to class by himself... so we are still working on being a little more independant.

Isaac is an active, rowdy boy. He has a mind of his own and an itinerary all his own too. He loves to have burping contests with his papa and Uncle Adam. He is very considerate and helpful. He is always thinking of others. Even checking out at the grocery store he wants to buy his papa a candy. He is even concerned about not being prepared when we see Sylus again.
He loves to jump off of anything and everything. NO FEAR!! He also loves his babies and puppy. He wants to be a dad when he grows up and work on computers and go through mail (he watches Nathaniel working in our home office). He adds a whole different personality to our family and we couldn't imagine life without him.

An Angel in Our Home... Sylus James

Well, I thought I would share my story of loosing Sylus. Hope it helps anyone looking for something.

I got pregnant with Sylus really quick. I was so excited to be pregnant again and expecting a baby since Isaac was then 4. I was really sick and tired for the first 3 months. Pepsi didn’t even appeal to me. Before I was to go in for my 20 week ultrasound, I told Nathaniel that he had to have names picked out. I wanted my baby to have a name right then. He had a girl name, but wasn’t sure for the boy name. I was excited to learn that we would be having another boy. I love my boys and wouldn’t trade them for anything and was excited to have another. We still didn’t have a boy name picked out, but hey!, we still had 4 months left. I am usually too excited about the baby coming that I have everything well prepared, but I had the feeling not to worry about it. On June 19th, I felt the baby move like crazy. It was the first and last time that I felt him. I will always remember that. I was in for a facial (because it was my birthday) and he wouldn’t stop moving. I couldn’t complain, I loved it. Every night I read the boys the scriptures and as I would read I would think of my baby listening intently. I don’t think there was a moment that when I was reading the scriptures loud that I didn’t think of also reading to the baby.

For a few days before my next check up, I had an inkling that something wasn’t right about the baby. But I kept pushing it aside because I thought of it rare that I would loose my baby right after Brandi (my cousin) lost hers. I also think I didn’t want to believe it.

So I went in for my check up on July 13, 2007. The doctor couldn’t find the heartbeat, but I still kept my hopes up because my belly had grown and I had also gained a little weight (later to find out it was because of all my eating in Arizona the week before). It had been common that the Dr. couldn’t find the heartbeat, so I wasn’t too concerned. But then we went in for an ultrasound. The baby wasn’t moving and didn’t have a heartbeat. My Dr. went to get another Dr. for a second opinion and he saw the same thing - my worst fears came true. My baby was dead. I sobbed. Ethan and Isaac were in the room with me and it was the hardest thing to be strong. The one Dr. took the boys out to the waiting room, while my Dr. talked to me about it and that I would have to deliver.

I called my mom to come and get the boys. Nathaniel was at a high adventure in Wyoming. I couldn’t get a hold of him. My mom had called my friend, Robyn Shalvis, to tell her the news. I was determined to have the baby with or without Nathaniel. I didn’t want to make the misery last. Robyn called the bishopric to get a call to Nathaniel so that he could be with me. Reese and Mary came to get the boys so that my mom could be with me. Reese gave me a blessing letting me know that Sylus was a valiant spirit and came down to get his body and that Heavenly Father needed him home. Several hours later, Nathaniel called me. We talked about him coming home and what we were going to name the baby. Several months back, we were visiting Nathaniel’s grandpa’s grave and I saw that his great grandpa’s name was Sylus. I thought it was a great and unusual name. So that’s what we decided to name the baby. James comes from Nathaniel’s uncle Jim and it is also Jeremiah’s middle name. Mary and Angel also came to stay with me until Nathaniel got there. I was fine and in good spirits - mostly not wanting to deal with reality. It was really good to laugh and have some girl time. When Nathaniel got to the hospital, I asked that he and I have time together. After the girls left, Nathaniel scooted a chair to the bed, held me and sobbed. I asked him to give me a blessing – I did it because I knew he needed the strength. The blessing was for him. I knew he needed the comfort too. At 11pm, Sylus James Cox delivered. Before I delivered, I kept telling the nurse that I didn’t want to hold the baby. I thought it would be too hard. But as I had Sylus, all I wanted to do was to hold him. He may have been dead, but he was my baby and the most amazing thing I could have held. I love him and just marveled at how small he was. He was 15 oz and 12 inches long. Nathaniel and I took turns holding him and taking pictures with him. It was hard throughout the night, because I would place my hand on my belly and cry because I didn’t have my baby. The next day, I called and asked my mom to take the boys to get a blanket and stuffed animal for Sylus’ casket. Mary brought the boys over to the hospital and we let the boys see him and offered to let them hold Sylus. The boys both declined, although Isaac looked at him. My mom came to the hospital with the boys. Ethan picked out a blue blanket and Isaac picked out a blue dog (which we have the same one too, I went to the store later so that I felt like Sylus was with us and we were with him). My mom said that on the way up in the elevator, they were in with a nurse that seemed excited for the boys and said that they must have gotten a new baby. Ethan looked at the lady and said “Our baby is dead”. We decided to have Sylus buried in Logan, Utah. The hospital released Sylus to us so that we could take him up there. Amy and Jeremiah met us at the mortuary. Amy was a big help with arranging the funeral and grave sight. Then we went to see the spot Amy had picked out. It was in Baby Land near 5 other boys.

The funeral was on Tuesday, July 17. We took the boys to the mortuary and talked to them about Sylus and his body and spirit. We also had a family prayer. We took another look at Sylus and I got to tuck in his blankets before the guy put on the top. We drove him to the cemetery. We had Jeremiah conduct. Nathaniel gave the prayer. Mary had written a poem that reads:

Jesus loves the little children, little ones like me
He would bless and help me and take me on his knee
He has sent me here so tiny and new,
To my loving family kind and true
Back to my Heavenly Father I must go
Even though I want to tell my family I love them so.

My grandma Anderson made a flower arrangement with a lamb, which we kept. Following, Amy held a luncheon at her mom’s home for everyone.

Later, Nathaniel and I had a conversation about making sure that the Spirit was always in our home so that Sylus would always feel welcomed at home.

We explained to the boys that we would be with Sylus again when Jesus returns. Isaac prays for Sylus to come back. We talk about Sylus as a brother and son. We pray that he will know us and know that we love him…. and to be good.

About a week later, Brandi called me. I had asked her if it bothered her to have her son buried in a different state than where they were living. She said that a friend of hers told her that the grave sight is a place for their bodies, but to be with him, you go to the Temple. A month later I attended the Bountiful Temple with a couple of other sisters from the ward. I was so excited to be with Sylus that I couldn’t wait to be in the Celestial room. During the session, I kept apologizing to the sister I was going through for because I was having a hard time paying attention because I kept thinking about Sylus. The sister, through the Spirit, let me know that she was there and not to worry. As soon as I got into the Celestial room I found a chair and sat down with my thoughts and was so comforted to be with my son.

Having and loosing Sylus is an experience that I would never change or give up. It strengthened my testimony and our family. He makes me strive harder to be worthy to raise him. I think of it as a sacrifice he made so that I would know my Heavenly Father loves me and be a better person. I am thankful to know that I have a Heavenly Father who knows me and has given me the strength to learn and grow from having Sylus. My baby. I love and miss him dearly and am thankful to have someone cheering for me on the other side.

It's a BOY

Well, we are expecting our 4th son. He is due July 5, 2008. No names yet have been chosen. (Oh and there was no mistaken that this is a boy. The technician and Doctor both confirmed it.)

Ethan's Baptism

Ethan was baptized today. He was confirmed a member to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints by his dad. We are so proud of Ethan and his choice to be baptized. Now he's working on his Faith in God. Ethan gave a 1 minute talk on baptism. As he came up from the water, Ethan let out a big sigh. I think he was glad that it was done. Isaac was excited for Ethan. Isaac kept asking when Ethan would be baptized. He was so proud of him.

LEGOS, LEGOS everywhere!!!

My boys are addicted to LEGOS. It started with a gift Isaac received for Christmas... which was a pain to put together.... that is now torn apart to make whatever my boys can think of. Right now they have a police center. Ethan also bought the Indiana Jones motorcycle set (it's the closest I've been to Sean Connery and Harrison Ford).

Ethan's favorite is the motorcycle.

Isaac has the guys doing a rescue mission.

Playing in the snow

Ethan bought his snowboard with a gift certificate from his birthday. He couldn't wait to try it out. Isaac couldn't wait to just play.

Cub Scouts.... Pinewood Derby

Ethan eating a rice crispy treat...

Nathaniel and Ethan worked hard on Ethan's car. There were 4 races. Ethan came in 2-3-2-3. He had a blast at seeing the different cars.

Ethan and Isaac's first basketball game

We were able to take Ethan and Isaac to their first basketball game last night. The Utah Jazz and Phoenix Suns were playing. We had great seats, 21st row from the floor. Isaac loved the Jazz Bear when he came out on a Harley. Ethan liked when the Bear on stilts climbed up the ladder... I was freaking out that the Bear might fall.

I was glad to take them to watch the game because a week ago Isaac referred to the game playing on the TV as football - it was basketball!

Birthday Boys

This week Ethan turned 8. He has decided to be baptized, which will take place February 2nd. He also will be starting Cub Scouts. His first meeting is a pack meeting. They will be doing the pinewood derby. Nathaniel and Ethan have been working together on the car. Ethan is a sweet kid and always trying to make the right choices. His favorite colors are gray and silver. He wants to be a hockey player when he grows up. He loves to read Harry Potter and a 5-in-1 book by Dr. Seuss. He loves to play Lego Star Wars on the X-Box 360. He is a great speller and already reads above his grade level. He loves to have his picture taken and will pose for it. He plays well with Isaac and also enjoys playing with his friends, Reese and Phoenix. He's growing too fast for me and I'm savoring every hug and kiss he offers!

This week Isaac turned 5. He is growing taller... even as I type. Isaac is a good boy. He loves to help me around the house. He'll even start unloading the dishwasher, just to surprise me. He thinks it's fun to clean toilets (he's definitely my child). He wants to be a dad when he grows up. He says he wants to be like Nathaniel. He loves to play office with his play desk. His favorite color is still green and sometimes he'll add pink in for me. He is a quick learner. He loves to follow his brother around and do whatever Ethan is doing. Whenever he gets the chance, he will put his pajama’s on. It doesn’t matter if it’s 10 in the morning, his pj’s always find their way back on. He’s very thoughtful and will tell me several times a day that he loves me.

Merry Christmas

As we celebrate Christ's birth and as I look back at this year and loosing our son, Sylus, I can't help but think of Christ's life and the many sacrifices He made for me so that through Him, I may be worthy to live again with my Heavenly Father. As a mother of a child that has gone all too quickly, I think of Mary, Jesus' mother. What strength and love she had for her son. I'm so thankful at this time to know of God's plan, to have been able to hold my son for even just a little while, and know the sacrifice Sylus made for me to even begin to learn to be a better person and mother. How having and loosing him has strengthened my testimony and our family.

Nathaniel is in the Young Men Presidency and very busy with camping and youth activities. He is also very busy with work.

Sarah is in the Relief Society Presidency and enjoys serving the sisters. She has had many girl nights with her friends within the ward and many ask for more girl time. She is busy with Ethan and Isaac and playing house.

Ethan is 7 and loves to be with his friends. One friend, Reese, has older brothers and Ethan loves learning more about hunting and being a boy.

Isaac is 4 and loves to help out mom. He is quite thoughtful and is more than happy to help with housework. He is one of the strengths in our family... reminding us to have morning family prayer and family time.

As many of you know, our third son was still-born on July 13. The hospital released him to us so that we could take him to Logan, where he is buried. It was all too bitter sweet.

We are also excited to be expecting our 4th child July 5, 2008. The boys are very happy and can't wait to help and hold the baby.

We love you all. Merry Christmas!

Nathaniel, Sarah, Ethan, Isaac and Sylus Cox
